Aizawl, Mizoram 1st February 2025 : Catholic Church in Mizoram inaugurates the Centenary Jubilee of its existence. Most. Rev. Stephen Rotluanga CSC, Bishop of Aizawl grace this occasion. The inauguration programme was held at Christ the King Cathedral, Aizawl. The theme chosen for this Centenary is ‘Live and Proclaim your Catholic faith’.
Mizoram is one of the states in North East India. It falls under the Diocese of Aizawl which covers the entire state of Mizoram and little portion of Assam state. Catholic faith in Mizoram has been started by five lay people namely: Mr. Lianchheua, Mr. Thangphunga, Mr. Lênga, Mr. Chalchhuna and Mr. Lalbâna on 1st February 1925. They embrace Catholic faith through the books that they read about Catholic faith. Then, the Church grows gradually and from 1947 onwards the priest permanently resided in Mizoram. In the year 1996, the episcopal see of Silchar was shifted to Aizawl, Mizoram which becomes Diocese of Aizawl. The present Bishop is Most. Rev. Stephen Rotluanga CSC, DD.
As the time goes by Catholic Church in Mizoram is set to celebrate its Centenary (1925-2025). The celebration begins from Christ the King Cathedral, Kulikawn on 1st February 2025 by ringing the centenary Bell 100 times. It was rung by Clergy, religious and the lay faithful. Bishop opens the Jubilee door and it was followed by Centenary Theme song presented by Diocese Choir. The Jubilee Logo and the Centenary Logo was unveiled and Centenary candle was also lighted by Bishop. The celebration continues with solemn Holy Mass offered by Most. Rev. Stephen Rotluanga CSC, Bishop of Aizawl.
A large number of faithful gathered for this important occasion. Different Parishes within Mizoram will have a separate inauguration programme of Centenary year in their own Parishes on the following Sunday. The celebration will continue through out this year at different levels. The centenary celebration will reach its culmination towards the end of this year.
