Parish Pastoral Council

Parish Pastoral Council is a body which  helps, suggests and support the ministry of the priests in the Parish. They greatly support in different activities carried out in the Parish. The canon law also strongly encourage to establish a Parish Pastoral Council in the Parish. Christ the King Parish Pastoral Council is established in the year 1980. In the beginning, they make their own guidelines and statues. In the year 1994 the guidelines have been revised and re-organised in a better way. In the year 2007 the Diocesan Bishop introduced Statues on Parish Pastoral Council for the Catholic Church in the Mizoram Region. Ever since the Cathedral Parish Council is renamed as Christ the King Cathedral Parish Pastoral Council.

The Cathedral Parish Council which is created on 1st January 1994 is considered as the First Cathedral Parish Council. The current term 2024 -2025 is the 16th term of this council. There are different committees created under this council for better functioning. Some committees have been cancelled and regroup. At present we have five committees.

PPC Office Bearers are free to call an Executive
meetings as per the need apart from the days
designated above.

 

The different committees are monitored by the Parish Pastoral Council Executive Committee. Above the Executive Committee there is Council General Body which has the highest authority. In between the meetings the Office Bearers are free to have meetings and take necessary steps on important and urgent matters. They are the one who follows, make plans, decides and observe the movement of the council and its members.

 

FUNCTION OF CATHEDRAL PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL

 

Christ the King Cathedral parish Pastoral Council works in collaboration with the Church Committee of each centre in the Parish. Some of the important functions of the Parish Pastoral Council are as follows:-

 

  1. Parish Council Office and its Staff:

Cathedral parish Pastoral Council has its own office in the Cathedral building. Since 2003 they employ one Office Secretary and his works and duties are regulated properly. The present office worker is Mr. Robert Lalhmachhuana.

 

  1. Parish Mission Field:

In support of Evangelisation 2000, the Cathedral Parish Council also takes an important steps in the evangelisation work. They work to impart teachings of Catholic Church in the villages. In the year 1995, Parish Evangelisation Team under the leadership of Mr. Stephen Zakhuma start this mission work. Though their effort makes lot of progress it is not strong enough to established the Church in the villages. So, it had been stopped for sometime. In the year 2005, this evangelisation mission is carried out again in some villages. They employed four local catechist since July 2005 and work in the following villages such as Muallungthu, Falkawn, Lungleng, Lungleng-I. These are the first people who worked as a local catechist:

1.  Pu Romuald Lalhuliana, Catechist retired

2.  Pu Phillip Lungmuana, Catechist retired

3.  Pu George Lalthanmawia, Sâmtlâng

4.  Pu Peter Lalzuala, Kâwltheihuan, Aizâwl

In Muallungthu and Falkawn villages a Catholic Church is established and even built the Church there. But, in Lungleng the Catholic Church is not established till today. 

The people who contributed for this cause are as follows:

3.   Pi B. Zodinpuii

4.   Pu Joseph Lalchhuana

Apart from these people Dr. Catherine Ngurbiakveli and other people also contributed a lot for this. Many other Local Catechist are also employed and continued evangelisation work in Sateek, Sumsuih, S. Sabual and Reiek. Catholic Church is established in Sateek and has now becomes a Parish. Even the MSMHC sisters also helps in the evangelisation work from March 2011 till February 2017.

 

  1. Literature and Publication

Many books and booklets have been prepared and are circulated to different peoples regarding the Catholic faith. Majority of the Catholic books that have been published are produced by Christ the King Cathedral. Parish Pastoral Council published a book on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee celebration of Catholic Church in Mizoram and named ‘Mizoram Katholik Kohhran 1947-1997’. Souvenior on Jubilee Year 2000 though published in the name of the Diocese is prepared mostly by the Cathderal Parish. The Souvenir on the Platinum Jubilee of the Priests Permanent Presence in Mizoram (1947-2022) is also published by Cathedral parish in the year 2024.

 

  1. Parish Development Project

Parish Pastoral Council also takes care of the different developmental projects within the Parish. This mostly includes infrastructure development such as construction of the Church, repairing the Church, buying and taking of the Church’s land etc. Some funds are set aside for the developmental works.

 

  1. Social Justice

Parish Pastoral Council also takes care of the teaching and imparting social justice among the faithful. They use to support Catholic students who have financial problems in their studies.
